At South Western School District, we place the health and wellness of our students as our highest priority. We recognize that a healthy child is a happy child and that healthier students are far more capable of learning, comprehending and reaching their fullest potential. That's why each of our school locations features a dedicated nurse's office managed by highly skilled, qualified medical professionals who specialize in student health care services.

Additionally, we have created this page to make it easy and convenient for parents to find information on everything from medication guidelines and immunizations to mandated screening details and more. Here you will also be able to access all necessary forms for things like physical and dental examinations as well as medication administration. Together we will work hard to create and maintain a safe and healthy environment that is conducive to learning.

Medications

Medications must be brought to school by an adult with a doctor's order (a signed and written statement stating the name of the medication, the dosage, time, and how it is to be given) and parent's written permission to give the medication. The form is available below, in the school main office, and nurse's office. Medication can not be given without this form.

Immunizations

A list of required immunizations can be found below. PLEASE NOTE: if you have a new student coming from another state: Pennsylvania law requires two (2) Varicella vaccinations, many other states only require one (1). If your child only has the first in this series, they will be asked to get the second vaccine in order to be allowed to stay in school.

Guidelines for Being Sent Home Ill from School

The Health Room has criteria that we follow when sending a learner home: the learner must have a temperature of 100 degrees or higher, vomiting in school or having severe diarrhea. Of course, there are extenuating circumstances that do arise, and we look at them on a case by case basis. PLEASE NOTE: if your learner has a fever of 100 degrees or higher, or has been vomiting, they should not return to school for at least 24 hours.
