Mentoring & Volunteering

A variety of opportunities to volunteer within our schools and with various school organizations exists, and the South Western School District recognizes that the success of our learners depends on the help of the entire community.

Mentoring

A district-wide mentoring program also exists at South Western. If you are interested in more information about becoming one of our mentors, please see the flyer or contact Jessie Gobrecht, Emory H. Markle Middle School Counselor, with specific questions about the mentoring program.

2023-2024 – District Volunteer Notice

New Registrations and Renewals will now be processed online.

NEW DISTRICT VOLUNTEERS: Please complete the New Volunteer Registration Form online. Submit the completed form.

For NEW volunteers - clearances must be dated no more than one (1) year from the date of registration submission.

Volunteers will be contacted after the verification process has been completed (which may take up to five (5) business days). You will then be scheduled to receive a photo ID badge. You will be required to present the following documents at that appointment:

  • PA State Police Criminal History
  • PA Child Abuse History
  • FBI Fingerprint Criminal History Check or Volunteer Verification Exemption Form
  • Act 24 Arrest/Conviction Report and Certification Form
  • Driver’s License (with your current address printed on it, or with your change of address card)

VOLUNTEER RENEWALS: Please complete the Volunteer Renewal Form online. Your information will be reviewed and all clearances on file must be in compliance. You will receive an email to confirm your status within five (5) business days of your submission date. A valid driver’s license or state ID (with your current address printed on it) will be required to complete the renewal process. At that time, you will receive your updated photo ID badge.

Volunteers must submit a Renewal Form each year to remain active in our system. Renewal Volunteer Clearances will remain valid for a period of sixty (60) months from the issue date on the respective clearance.

Note: If an individual does not re-register during any given year and then returns during a subsequent year, this constitutes a break in service and new clearances will have to be resubmitted.

***Please note that all SWSD Athletic Volunteer Coaches require Board approval. Please contact the High School Athletic Office for the next steps.***
